Social Media

The video above is about social media, it is a video reference that our lectures gave to us.  

Media is an instrument on communication, like a newspaper, a radio, a blog, a podcast, or a video, so social media would be a social instrument of communication. Social media can includes the various online technology tools that enable people to communicate easily via the internet to share information and resources. Here are some examples of social media : 



1. Social Media Bookmarking (Del.icio.us, Blinklist, Simpy) 
   Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to organize, store, manage and search    for   bookmarks of resources online.

2. Social Media News (Digg, Propeller, Reddit)
   A social news is a type of website that features user-submitted stories that are     ranked based on popularity.

3. Social Networking (Facebook, Hi5, Last.FM, Twitter)
   A social network is a social structure made up of individuals (or organizations) called  "nodes", which are tied (connected) by one or more specific types of interdependency, such as friendship,  kinship,  common interest, financial exchange, dislike, sexual relationships, or relationships of beliefs, knowledge or prestige.

4. Social Photo and Video Sharing (YouTube, Flickr) 
    Interact by sharing photos or videos and commenting on user submissions. 

5. Wikis (Wikipedia, Wikia) 
    Interact by adding articles and editing existing articles.

Here is some icons of social media that now have a good popularity in many generations.

    The task that given to us is to discuss how the "social media" affecting our life and the lives of the people around us. I know that social media have been affecting my life, and it is obviously also affect to people around me. For example, every day and almost every morning, the first thing i check is the information from the people or my friends that i follow are sharing via twitter or facebook. Friends from social networking are increasingly becoming the trusted sources of information than if i have to go to google or some other news websites, and again by getting the news from social networking, I know who is recommending it, and can easily communicate with that person about it. News is more social than ever. Of course, many people still update the news from RSS Feeds or CNN or maybe Google News, but people attention maybe getting lower and lower for that site than social networking. Furthermore, as social media platforms have become more and more prevalent, there is almost peer pressure to join each and every one of the social platforms. 
    Another aspect that affect my life is how I meet people. Old friends, family that lives in different city, new friends or maybe just make a group of close friend to stay keep in touch. In other words, social media is increasingly being used to find and maintain both old and potentially new friendships. In social networking, I found my friend who started her business, she makes an online shop and not just her because millions of people out there already started the online business in different category. I found her easier to maintain her online shop, she just doesn't have to own or rent a building to her shop and she doesn't have to pay the employee. All she can manage in proper way. 
    I think there is a lot of affections from social media to other people too, and we can't avoid them. All we have to do is just try to get the positive side from social media and if we used effectively we will know that it's just to being more social. We are more engaged with friends, we are more literate, more connected, more open to creating new relationships, and generally more interested in the world around us.
